DETROIT – Billionaire and Ambassador Bridge owner Manuel (Matty) Moroun was released from Wayne County Jail on Friday night of last week after a motion was granted to release him through the Michigan Court of Appeals.
Dan Stamper, his top aide, was also freed. The appeals court Thursday denied their motion to overturn the main parts of Judge Prentis Edwards’ order that sent them to jail. However, that motion also said that the two would be jailed until the Detroit International Bridge Co., which is owned by Moroun, completes its long-delayed Gateway project at the Ambassador Bridge as the judge ordered two years ago according to reports.
Moroun and Stamper spent 30 hours behind bars until they were released.
The two are free until a sped-up review of Edwards’ order on Feb. 2 in Detroit by the Appeals Court.
