FARMINGTON HILLS — Syrian American Obada Mzaik, age 21 and a former Oakland Community College student, has gone missing in Syria according to his uncle Dr. Firas Nashef. Mzaik is a dual citizen of the U.S. and Syria who was born in Columbus, Ohio and was detained in Damascus after spending about six months in the U.S.
His uncle said he is worried about him because of the prison and justice system in the country.
Mzaik had been detained in Summer 2011 but was not charged after being detained for nearly 40 days.
Security guards took him into custody after he landed in Damascus on Jan. 3. The U.S. State Dept. told MSNBC that they were working with officials in Syria on the matter.
