LANSING — Joe Hune, a Republican senator from the 22nd district in Livingston County, Shiawassee County, and a portion of southern Ingham County, introduced a new bill that says people who get assistance from the state in the form of cash should be required to do community service.
Examples he listed include highway cleanup, the local food bank, library, school district and others.
Background checks would be required in those places. Already the state has a training, work and education requirement for those who receive assistance.
