DETROIT — A New York man could face up to 35 years in prison for killing a Detroit Police Officer in a car accident last June in the city’s Greektown entertainment district.
Thirty year old Saddam Mohsin pleaded guilty last Thursday in Wayne County Circuit Court to second-degree murder and operating under the influence after causing the death of Charles Armour, a 16 year police veteran. Mohsin was driving down the wrong way when his Ford Focus struck Armour who has on Foot Patrol.
Mohsin’s attorney, Leon Weiss of the Fieger Law firm stated that the incident was clearly an accident and implied that his client had mental problems. However, Mohsin was found competent by the judge to stand trial.
Mohsin’s sentencing is scheduled for Feb 13. The Wayne County prosecutor’s office says the plea includes a sentence agreement of 18 to 35 years.
