DETROIT – Wayne County will begin sending people door-to-door to offer foreclosed homes in Detroit for sale for as little as $500 according to a report from WWJ.
More than 6,000 homes that were foreclosed did not sell at an auction last fall. The county treasurer’s office said it is willing to negotiate with anyone living inside including owners.
Those who wish to buy must prove they are residents through an ID card or driver’s license, or a utility bill potentially. Residents must agree to be monitored for two years to make sure they keep up the property and taxes in an effort to stop blight. Last year, 1,200 homes were sold in a similar program, although the city of Detroit does not support it officially.
