DEARBORN – A Dec. 25 accident that took the life of 22-year-old Eitedac Alghathie has led to preliminary charges of reckless driving and second-degree murder for two of her brothers who were drivers during the incident, according to family members, with a preliminary exam set for Friday, Feb. 17 at 9 a.m.
The grieving family said they were shocked at the charges against Yaken Alghathie, 20, who drove the Jeep SRT8s that included the sister, as well as Saber Alghathie, 17, who drove a similar vehicle and was also charged. Both have been in Wayne County jail for about a week, family members said. They said that many cars were involved in the accident. No drugs or alcohol were involved according to local news reports and family members. A sister of the victim was badly injured as well and is now rehabbing.
Requests for more information were not responded to by Dearborn Police as of press time.
Dec. 25 was a third sister’s wedding day at Greenfield Manor with the accident taking place nearby.
“It turned from a happy moment to a devastating one and it’s just getting worse,” said brother Saif Alghathie. “We’re asking for community support and for people to put themselves in our shoes.”
