DETROIT – Fadi
Hassan Faraj, the 35-year-old man accused of killing 23-year-old
Hassan Zeidan after a pickup basketball game in Dearborn this past summer, had
his murder case temporarily dismissed this morning after the Wayne
County Prosecutor’s Office was not ready for jury selection.
The
case has been refiled but must now work its way back up through the
system while Faraj remains in Wayne County jail.
The
prosecutor in the case showed up more than an hour late to the
courtroom leading to Judge Carole Youngblood’s dismissal.
The
family of Zeidan reportedly is distraught at the decision according
to WDIV-TV as they had hoped to begin the process after much waiting.
A
delay had occurred in the case from its original Dec. 5 starting date
until today. Faraj had faced first-degree murder and felony firearm
charges.
At the time of the jury selection, the
prosecutor was in another courtroom.
Zeidan’s mother Mariam said she feels
as though the judge was punishing the family for something that was
out of their hands.
Prosecutors must handle the cases they
had been previously working on so a switch was not an option.
