During a Wayne County Commission meeting Thursday commissioner Laura Cox asked County Executive Robert Ficano to resign, describing his administration as corrupt and incompetent.

Ficano responded in this statement released by his office: “I am not resigning, and there have been no allegations of wrongdoing made against me. My administration has been cooperative with the federal authorities. The actions taken by one commissioner today are simply a partisan attack and political posturing in an election year.” 

The request from Cox comes after two county officials were federally charged. On Thursday Tahir Kazmi, the county’s former Chief Information Officer, who was charged with extortion, bribery and obstruction of justice turned himself in to federal court. His subordinate in the county’s IT department, Zayd Alleban was charged with obstruction of justice too. Kazmi resigned from his position with the county Wednesday. According to the FBI, which launched an investigation into Wayne County following a controversial $200,000 severance payment issued to then county chief economic development officer Turkia Mullin, Alleban and Kazmi both pressured a county contractor to lie to the FBI amid the investigation.  According to the FBI’s investigation Kazmi demanded high priced trips to Hawaii, Turkey and Florida in addition to cell phones for his children from a county contractor. Kazmi asked the contractor to say the trips and cash were loans, and is being accused of attempting to hide information from the federal government that was on hard drives. Alleban tried convincing a vendor the gifts were loans. 

Meanwhile, Georgetta Kelly, Wayne County director of human resources, has announced that she would be leaving her job to take another position in a different state. Mark Dukes deputy director of personal and human resources also resigned after Kelly.  g
