The controversial, fatal shooting of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin by a neighborhood watch volunteer has made national headlines for weeks, and a recent unsavory incident involving Martin has also made headlines for the wrong reasons.
On early Monday morning, a portable road sign on westbound I-94 near Michigan Avenue was hacked by a vandal, who posted a racial slur referencing Martin on the sign. Police began receiving calls about it at 1 a.m. before a crew was able to fix it around 2 a.m. The hacker was reportedly able to access the sign by breaking a lock to reach the control panel.
Hackings have occurred in the past but usually to place humorous messages on the sign or holiday related messages for example. A full investigation is underway.
