DETROIT — Wayne County Community College District was the site of a special ceremony on Friday, May 11 officially announcing the promotion of Ali Berri, 46, to Director of Classifications in the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office.
Among those present were Wayne County Sheriff Benny Napoleon and Deputy Chief Mike Jaafar, who both spoke highly of Berri’s work.

“It’s been my experience that Ali Berri goes above and beyond what is required in any assignment on behalf of the citizens of Wayne County,” Napoleon said. “He is a tireless worker, professional in every aspect and fully supports the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office and the new mission that evolved following my appointment in 2009.
“I am extremely proud and honored to reward Ali for his great service and dedication to the citizens and also the men and women of the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office.”
Jaafar also believed that the promotion was well deserved.
“How wonderful it is to work for a sheriff that promotes on proven talent regardless of race, religion or ethnicity. Though I should be complimenting Director Berri, I’m going above and beyond to compliment Sheriff Benny Napoleon for recognizing the talents of Ali Berri, which will enhance our agency in a positive manner.”
Jaafar added that he was excited to see a fellow Fordson High School graduate join him on the Wayne County Sheriff’s Executive Staff, saying that it made him feel proud of the community that raised them.
Berri, a former sergeant, said he was excited to begin the new job.
“I am humbled and honored by my appointment to the Director of Classifications, I thank Sheriff Napoleon for having the faith in my capability. I will continue to serve the citizens of Wayne County to the best of my ability as I have been for the last 23 years.”
