DEARBORN — The fountain in front of the Henry Ford Centennial Library is in jeopardy following a proposal that could see it demolished to make way for a smaller display, possibly a garden or a similar structure according to the Detroit News.
The current fountain needs about $750,000 to be fully restored according Director of Public Works Jim Murray as quoted in the report. The fountain was a multimillion-dollar gift from the Ford family to the city in 1963.
Major repairs were last made in 2006, and costs per year are about $75,000, the news said.
A feasibility study will be ready next month; in the meantime, public input is being sought.
