Amanda Jawad, a 24-year-old Lebanese-American from Dearborn has just recently graduated from Harvard Law School in May with her Doctoral degree. Jawad prepared for her time at Harvard by pursuing a high school education at Detroit Country Day, a private school in Beverly Hills, Michigan. She then pursued her Undergraduate at the University of Michigan, where she studied Psychology and Spanish. She told The Arab American News that she continues to be surprised by the amount of support she has received from the community.

Mary Turfah, a 17-year-old from Dearborn Heights has just recently been accepted into Yale University in Connecticut, where she is expected to move this fall and live in the dormitories. Turfah told the Arab American News that she applied for a major in Biology but is also interested in foreign languages such as French. In April, she took a tour of the university after she got accepted and felt that she would fit right in.
Turfah attributes her high school education to being able to go away for college. She attended Cranbrook School in Bloomfield Hills, a private college prep boarding institution where she was the valedictorian of her class. She states that being a student at the school helped her expand from the “Dearborn bubble” and gave her an open mind about other cultures.
