DEARBORN-The annual Eid Festival is Sunday Aug. 26 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Centennial Library Soccer Field here, with no admission cost. The festival attracts thousands of people every year, and has hundreds of volunteers.

It’s held in celebration of Eid al-Fitr, and is expected to include attractions such as live interactive entertainment, basketball tournament, video games by Game Headz, carnival rides, food among other features.

The first Eid Festival was held in 2010, where an estimated 5,000 people attended. The Eid Festival is a collaborative effort of diverse community organizations from Dearborn and around Southeast Michigan to host a cultural entertaining and educational social event for the community during the annual celebration of Eid al-Fitr which is a holiday concluding the Islamic holy month of Ramadan, where Muslims are required to fast daily from dawn until dark, refraining from food, beverages.

It’s also a time for Muslims to engage in community service and assist the less fortunate in their communities. The benefits of this type of fasting aids in strengthening one’s moral character, appreciating the daily blessings of food and water and sympathizing with the less fortunate.
