DEARBORN — Since the annual Eid Festival first launched in 2010, its proceeds have gone towards funding college scholarships to assist the youth. “That is one of our main goals. Part of the reason we have the festival to provide college students with financial assistance,” Eid Festival coordinator Hassan Hakim said. Last year festival organizers were able to award five scholarships according to Hakim. Scholarships were also awarded this year. Hakim says thousands attended the festival. It was Aug. 26 at the Centennial Soccer Field here, and included live entertainment, food, carnival rides among other attractions. It’s held in celebration of Eid al-Fitr, a holiday concluding the Islamic holy month of Ramadan. Plans for the 2013 Eid Festival are underway.
