MT. CLEMENS — Rahim Alfetlawi, the stepfather of 20-year-old Jessica Mokdad was convicted in her slaying death that occurred April 2011 in Warren. A Macomb County Circuit Court jury in Mount Clemens deliberated for a short period of time before reaching its decision recently.
Mokdad was shot to death at her grandmother’s house. She left her home in Minnesota to live with her biological father in Grand Blanc, but her stepfather had followed her to Michigan to allegedly speak to her biological father.
There have been claims that Mokdad’s death was an “honor killing,” because she had become Americanized and wasn’t following the teachings of Islam. But relatives of Mokdad, and family friends say that Alfetlawi was controlling and obsessed with Mokdad, and that he wanted to have a romantic relationship with her. Alfetlawi will be sentenced Nov. 15, and faces life in prison without parole.
