DETROIT — “Rising from the Ashes: Engaging Detroit’s Future with Courage,” is the title of a nascent book by Bankole Thompson, a widely respected journalist, radio and television analyst and editor of the Michigan Chronicle.
The book, a compendium of select interviews and analysis, examines the current state of the city’s socio-economic and political challenges and opportunities and offers fact-based prognostication on this major urban center.
It also delves into specific issues that would confront the next leadership of the city and lays out a pathway for the city’s resurgence especially in light of Obama’s reelection and auto industry repositioning.
Global Mark Makers (GMM) of Iowa is publishing Thompson’s latest book on Detroit leadership, governance and future development. The publishing outlet is also the publisher of Thompson’s book series on the Obama presidency, including the two already published books, “Obama and Black Loyalty,” and “Obama and Christian Loyalty.”
In a release, GMM said the Detroit book is slated for July 2013 release, so timed to coincide with the city’s search for new leadership amid deep-seated but surmountable socio-economic challenges that require resplendent vision and renewed vigor to enable the auto city to take its rightful place on Business Insider’s next boom cities’ list, alongside Brooklyn NY, Seattle Washington State, Austin Texas, Raleigh North Carolina and Boulder Colorado.
“Many books on Detroit are either anachronistic or pessimistic. We are not aware of any recent book that paints the future of Detroit with inspiring and insightful brushes of hope. Bankole Thompson’s book on his beloved city of Detroit will fill that void, with credible and compelling interviews and analysis,” GMM said.
“We are glad that Thompson agreed to carry out this important task of telling the Detroit story in a better, bolder, brighter way as leaders, residents and businesses of the global city search for answers.”
Part interview and part analysis, the book takes readers into the future Detroit they’ve always wanted, one that is an outgrowth of collective imagination, integrity, diligence and perseverance; where all Detroiters — from political, business, religious and community leaders to seniors, students and staff members of the various public and private sector organizations — walk the talk of love for Detroit.
