Marianna Kay Siblani (1948-2013) |
DEARBORN (January 2, 2013) – It is with deep regret and profound sadness that we inform you of the passing of Marianna Kay Siblani, the executive editor of The Arab American News for the last 28 years.
She passed away peacefully last night surrounded by her family, after a long struggle with cancer. Kay bravely battled Stage 4 breast cancer for the last two years, which recently became fatally aggressive.
During her time at The Arab American News, she was a powerful voice and an advocate for Arab and Muslim Americans on local and national issues. She has truly been a silent warrior and a tough fighter since the inception of the newspaper, and helped set its foundation so that it will remain strong for decades to come.
Kay stood by the newspaper and braved financial hardship, along with long working hours. She worked hard with a steadfast and complete dedication to the Arab cause even though she didn’t have a drop of Arab blood in her veins.
She never quit despite her numerous medical setbacks, and she was always there for her family, friends, her colleagues, The Arab American News and the people it serves in both good and hard times.
Kay is survived by her mother Anna Leota Kendall, her daughter Michelle, her brothers Kenny and Keith, her sister Kathy, and three grandchildren Brittany, Jackie and Alexandria.
She will be greatly missed, and always remembered.
