DEARBORN-Dearborn Mayor Jack O’Reilly and Dearborn city councilwoman Suzanne Sareini recently recognized the contributions Kay Siblani, the late executive editor of The Arab American News for 28-years, made to the city over the decades, and expressed sincere sympathy to her family over her passing Jan. 1, when she lost her battle with cancer.
Mayor O’Reilly presented Siblani’s family with a resolution of appreciation for her services, and offered his condolences to them, on Saturday, Jan. 5 while attending a funeral service for her in Warren at the Verheyden Funeral Home.
Siblani dedicated her life to serving the local Arab and Muslim communities here and around southeast Michigan. Several people from both communities, and leaders in the region including Wayne County Executive Robert Ficano, U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Michigan, Barbara McQuade and Dearborn Heights City Councilman Tom Berry attended funeral services for her.
Sareini is expected to present a similar resolution thanking Siblani for her work, and offering sympathy to the publisher of the paper, Osama Siblani and its staff at an upcoming city council meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 15. inside the city’s Council Chambers at City Hall beginning 7:30 p.m.
