DEARBORN — Under a new state law the kindergarten entry date will gradually change over the next three years from Dec. 1 to Sep. 1. The new law takes effect this year meaning that for 2013 children must be five years of age by Nov. 1 in order to be eligible to enroll in kindergarten. However, parents with a child whose birthday falls after the new Nov. 1 deadline have until June 1, 2013 to complete a simple waiver that will allow them to enroll their child in kindergarten even if their birthday falls after the Nov. 1 date.
You will need a waiver for the:
• 2013-14 School Year- If your child turns five years of age after Nov. 1, 2013
• 2014-15 School Year- If your child turns five after Oct. 1, 2014
• 2015-16 School Year- If your child turns five after Sep. 1, 2015
Waivers are available at all elementary schools in the Dearborn Public School District, the Student Services Office located in the Administration Building, 18700 Audette, Dearborn 48124, or on the district’s site, www.dearbornschools.org.
