DETROIT — Walmart Foundation is accepting applications from Michigan nonprofit organizations for its annual State Giving Program.
Prospective grantee organizations must submit applications through the Walmart Foundation State Giving Program’s online grant application, available at www.walmartfoundation.org/stategiving. The deadline to apply is March 1.
In 2011, cash and in-kind donations in Michigan from Walmart stores, Sam’s Clubs and the Walmart Foundation totaled $21.7 million. Total giving in Michigan, including customer donations, totaled $23.9 million in 2011.
Walmart Foundation’s State Giving Program awards grants twice a year to underserved populations in every state. State Giving grants begin at $25,000.
In 2012, Michigan-based charities received $1.1 million from State Giving Program grants issued by the Walmart Foundation, including nonprofits Forgotten Harvest, Gleaners Community Food Bank, The Food Bank Council of Michigan, Grace Centers of Hope and the Saginaw Promise.
Locally, Walmart has stores in Dearborn, Southgate, Taylor and Woodhaven.
