OAK PARK — Dr. Ramsey Dass, the president of the American Middle East Christians Conference issued the following statement regarding the resignation of Pope Benedict XVI: 

“There are those who have underestimated the influence, charisma, and intellectuality of the retiring Pope Benedict XVI. His contribution to the Catholic church and Catholicism will continue in his retirement,” Dass said. “The Middle East Christians will always be grateful for the gallant efforts he has worked so hard to provide for the Middle East Christians and Christianity as they are going through a very difficult time in preserving their faith, heritage, and presence. We are all praying for a new Pope who will continue Pope Benedict’s efforts in fulfillment of his vision and mission for the Middle East.”
