AURBURN HILLS — Malik Amine, who’s Lebanese, and a junior at Detroit Catholic Central High School won first place in the Michigan High School State Championships which were held at the Palace of Auburn Hills here recently. In addition to the wrestler’s impressive performance in sports, Amine has managed to maintain academic excellence throughout his whole high school career. He currently has a 3.4 GPA, and is a member of the Junior National Freestyle and Greco Team. In 2012 he was a second state finalist, and during his freshman year he came in 5th place. Malik has already received offers from prestigious schools such as Princeton, Cornell and the University of Michigan among other schools according to Mike Amine, Malik’s father.
His younger brother Myles Amine, who’s a sophomore at Detroit Catholic Central High School, finished in third place; his only loss in the state tournament was to the eventual state champ. He has a 4.3 GPA and is a member of the Cadat National Freestyle and Greco Team. Their younger sibling Marissais a sophomore at Michigan State University.
Nazem Amine, the children’s grandfather, won the 1960 Olympics greco roman bronze medal. Mike was a 1988 NCAA finalist and All-American for the University of Michigan.
“Both the boys are great young men and have achieved a great deal at a young age because of their dedication and the wonderful support they receive at home from their family. It is really nice to see them being recognized for their achievements,” said Scott Confer, a family friend.
