DEARBORN— Zachary Teeters, a 26 year-old Dearborn man, was arraigned at the 19th District Court Mar. 1 on one count of felonious assault. Teeters allegedly threatened an employee of a local sub shop with a knife at about 5:30 p.m. on Feb. 27. The incident occurred at Mango’s Café here.

The altercation took place after an argument over the price of a sandwich. The owner of Mango’s Café reportedly told police Teeters called and claimed to have seen an ad for $3 subs. He was told there was no such deal, and that the price was $7.94. Teeters ordered the sub and arrived a short time later, saying he spoke to someone who offered it to him for $3. After the owner said no to the deal, Teeters knocked over a donation box and other items on the counter and went outside.
When the owner followed him outside, and told Teeters to stop, he pulled a knife on him. The owner went inside afterwards and called police. Teeters was eventually arrested after a foot chase by police.
Felonious assault may be punished by up to four years in prison and/or a fine of up to $2,000. Teeters’ preliminary exam was scheduled for Friday, Mar. 8 in Dearborn’s 19th District Court. Dearborn Police Chief Ronald Haddad said, “these types of crimes are totally intolerable and will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”
