DETROIT — The Alzheimer’s Association-Greater Michigan Chapter in partnership with the Detroit Institute of Arts (DIA) is pleased to announce a new program at the DIA called Minds on Art (MoA) that will launch early April.
The new MoA program allows people to be creative and productive. It brings people living with dementia and their caregivers together, facilitating communication and self-expression. MoA also maintains and/or improves behavior, social skills and understanding.
Individuals with Alzheimer’s disease and other related dementias and their caregivers/companions are invited to join the Alzheimer’s Association-Greater Michigan Chapter at the DIA to participate in gallery discussions about art and in the creation of their own artwork, led by experienced DIA staff and volunteers.
Individuals and their caregivers/companions will meet once a week for 6 consecutive weeks. All sessions are free. For more information on the program call or to register contact Program Coordinator Jean Barnas at 800.272.3900, or email jbarnas@alz.org.
