Dearborn Heights resident Abdul Hussein Bazzi has been announced as the 2013 recipient of the teamGM Recognition program, a noteworthy award created by GM’s Executive Operations Committee that recognizes employees who are taking action to lead GM as a competitive innovative company.
Bazzi, who has been with GM for five years, works with the company’s IT program and manages software developments in North America, Mexico, the Middle East region, and China. Bazzi and his software development team earned the teamGM award for their innovative work with chrome technology, when they were able to establish a resolution for a recurring problem: OnStar advisor and mapping applications were running slow, and this responsiveness was affecting customers.

In just 90 days, Bazzi led the team to develop, test and implement Chrome browser technology. The change reduced the amount of time it takes to handle a customer interaction down to an average of 12 to 15 seconds, a significant improvement for customers waiting for help. It also was an enormous efficiency gain for OnStar, which handles 3 million calls per month, saving $7 million in operating costs annually.
This is not the first time Bazzi has led a team and received outstanding recognition for his software implementation. In the past two years alone, he has led the design and implementation of four other software programs which have earned him four outstanding achievement awards for his leadership.
“This award that they give, they don’t just give it to anybody, so it feels pretty good to be recognized for something so rare,” Bazzi stated in a phone interview. “I love my job, it’s very rewarding and It’s exactly what I wanted to do in my life,” he added.
As for Bazzi’s future developments with the company, he says there is much more to come. He is currently working on four new projects simultaneously and is hoping they will also be beneficiary for the company.
