DEARBORN — Less than two weeks are left to file a petition to run for office in Dearborn. To date, 30 people have pulled petitions, including twenty-two people for city council, three for city clerk and six for mayor.
Those who have pulled petitions to run for mayor are Zaid Abdulmalik, Tahir Hassan Al Araqy, Edward Binkley, Rabih ElKadri, Nofila Haidar and Dearborn Mayor Jack O’Reilly. Only Abdulmalik has returned his petition.
Kathleen Buda, the City’s current clerk, has returned her petition, and is running for another term. The other two candidates for city clerk are Mark Dawdy, an operations manager and former mayoral candidate, and Khalil Dakhlallah, a student service liaison, both haven’t returned their petitions. Dakhlallah, also filed a petition for City Council, but cannot run for both.
Seven city council seats are open this election. Three of the current incumbents, David Bazzy, Brian O’Donnell and Mark Shooshanian have pulled petitions, but have not returned them. Longtime City Councilwoman Suzanne Sareini will not be running for another term, and council members President Tom Tafelski, Bob Abraham and Nancy Hubbard haven’t pulled petitions.
City council candidates who have returned their petitions are: Michael Albano, Mohamed Berro, Susan Dabaja, Stephen Dobkowski Jr., Maureen McIlrath-Noland, Colette Richards and Mike Sareini.
Others who have pulled petitions for city council are: Tarek Baydoun, David Bazzy, Michael Berry, Robert Bochenek, Rapheal Coles, Khalil Dakhlallah, Sharon Dulmage, Steven Guibord, Patrick Melton, Brian O’Donnell, Mary Petlichkoff, Shooshanian, Nicholas Vandenburg, Ejaz Virk and Robert Watson.
Those who are interested in filing petitions must pick them up and return them to the City Clerk’s Office at City Hall. The clerk’s office is open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays. To contact the clerk’s office, call 313-943-2030.
