DETROIT — During a visit to Detroit schools this past Monday with Governor Rick Snyder, U.S. Education Secretary Arne Duncan was questioned, along with the Governor, about the Education Achievement Authority (EAA).

Governor Snyder’s administration was criticized last month when reports surfaced that secret meetings were held between members of his staff and private for-profit companies, seeking partnerships in schools. These reports also included alleged conversations about a type of voucher system, which is illegal. Since then Snyder has called for an end to the meetings, and has stated that he is not in favor of vouchers. However, he continues to defend private companies that are working to assist the schools.
Those who oppose the EAA have called it ineffective and corrupt.
