DETROIT — The Internal Revenue Service and the Center for Nonprofit Management at Lawrence Technological University will co-host a low-cost, one-day, workshop on May 21 and 22, 2013 to help educate tax-exempt nonprofit organizations on meeting their tax obligations and ensuring they keep their tax-exempt status.
The one-day “Tax Compliance Workshop for Small and Medium-Sized Tax-Exempt Organizations” will be from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Gallery Room of the UTLC Building. For event details or to register, go to //www.ltu.edu/management/nonprofitirsupdate.asp
The workshop will be conducted by IRS Revenue Agents specializing in tax exempt tax law. Topics will include in-depth discussions of activities that can jeopardize 501 (3) status, unrelated business income, gaming and employment issues. IRS Specialists will give particular emphasis to explaining resources available to help with completing annual information returns that tax-exempt nonprofits must submit to the IRS. This training will not cover how to apply for tax-exempt status and is geared only to 501(c)(3) organizations.
The workshop is designed for administrators, employees and volunteers, who are responsible for an organization’s tax compliance, tax professionals who work with charitable organizations, as well as students and faculty in nonprofit management programs. The workshops are approved for Continuing Professional Education credits for tax professionals.
