DEARBORN —Lebanese American soccer player Soony Saad will be included on the Lebanese national soccer team that will face Oman in a friendly game on May 29.

Saad, 20, was born to Lebanese parents in Dearborn. He scored 76 goals for his high school in his 2009, setting a state record for goals scored in a single season. In his first year in college, he scored 19 goals for the University of Michigan, a school record for a freshman.
In 2011, He signed a professional contract with Major League Soccer outfit Sporting Kansas City, where he scored a goal on his first appearance. Since then, he managed to score two more goals for the reserve team.
Saad told Lebanese TV Al Jadeed that he was tempted to join the Lebanese national squad after monitoring the team’s success. Lebanon reached the final round of Asia’s world cup qualifiers for the first time in its history in 2012.
The 20-year-old acquired his Lebanese citizenship recently, but he needs the FIFA’s approval before he plays for Lebanon in an official game because he has played for the U.S. national under- 20 soccer team.
