The Arab International Festival attracted over 200,000 visitors during its peak in the early 2000s. |
Year after year, a host of corporate sponsors, including Ford, Comcast, AT&T and various government agencies, like the CIA, in addition to local businesses, chose to get involved in the festival. In addition, an increased presence of religious groups from different faiths began taking part in peaceful discussions. Impact International, a Christian group that originated in the Bible Belt, sent over 250-300 people, on a yearly basis, to volunteer at the festival and help with set-up, clean-up, security and assist festival-goers in locating lost family members.
Increased tension may have led to smaller crowds in later years. |
Although the Chamber of Commerce is now the sole organization, whose name is on the permit for the festival, Fay Beydoun said that numerous local organizations, including ACCESS, HYPE, and many mosques remain involved in planning the festival, but do not include their names on any official paperwork for legal reasons.
