DETROIT — Students from the University of Michigan-Dearborn, who were studying Arabic in Egypt, returned home safely this week.
The students cut their trip short, as a result of the turmoil currently plaguing Egypt.
Last week, former Egyptian President Mohammed Morsi was ousted from power, after only serving a year of the term for which he was democratically elected.
Millions of people protested on the streets of Egypt, demanding that Morsi step down.
The students say that they were not near the protests, and faculty members made sure that they remained in a safe place.
Leah List, one of the students, told a local television station that she was in Egypt for five weeks, as part of a partnership between U of M and The American University in Cairo. List says that she remains worried about some of her friends back in Egypt, but never felt like she was in any danger while she was there. More than a dozen students from U of M, who have been in Egypt, studying the Arabic language, are being ordered to return home because of the events unfolding in the country.
