FERNDALE — A group, based in Ferndale, is working to get marijuana decriminalized in the City. It has collected more than 500 signatures, enough to get the issue on the November ballot.
About 10 years ago, the City passed an ordinance to get marijuana legalized. The group hopes to decriminalize marijuana use and possession within City boundaries.
If the measure passes, the use or possession of marijuana would still be considered a civil infraction, however, individuals would not be subjected to jail time.
Colorado and Oregon have both legalized marijuana, and the group is pushing to get similar ordinances passed in other Michigan communities, in an effort to eventually get marijuana legalized statewide.
