Detroit–Detroit FBI Special Agent in Charge Robert Foley announced this week that he is leaving the City, after less than a year on the job, for personal reasons.
Foley has decided to step down to dedicate more time to his family. His decision was made after a family member developed a health problem, during his tenure in Detroit. Foley is married and has a daughter.

“We don’t have any family here. The best thing for me to do is to step down,” Foley told the Detroit Free Press this week.
He said that having to step down is one of the toughest career choices that he has had to make in his 17 years with the FBI.
U.S. Attorney Barbara McQuade says that Foley will be missed, adding that he was involved in many community outreach efforts to bridge the gap between communities and the federal government.
“He brought a common-sense, outside perspective, to cases involving public corruption, fraud, violent crime and other threats to public safety,” McQuade said. “We will miss his insights and experience, as well as his friendship.”
Foley plans to move to Ft. Myers, Fla. soon, where he and his wife have a larger extended family. He still plans to work with the FBI there. His new job will involve fighting public corruption.
