Beirut — The Israeli military said several rockets were fired at northern Israel from southern Lebanon on Thursday, Aug. 22, but one was intercepted by an anti-missile shield and three others fell outside Israeli territory. However, Israeli security sources, speaking on condition of anonymity, told Reuters that at least five rockets did hit Israel.
Israel’s Magen David Adom ambulance service said there were no casualties.
Southern Lebanon is a stronghold of Hizbullah, but Israel blamed the attack on a “global jihadi organization,” its term for al-Qaeda and Islamist militant offshoots.
The Lebanese Army said in a statement that four Katyusha rockets were fired from Tyre into Israel, and four wooden launching pads were discovered on the outskirts of Hosh village.
