LANSING — Governor Snyder commenced with his third investment mission to Asia, after leaving Lansing for China and Japan on Wednesday, Sept. 4.
“This will be three years now, and we’ve come a long way,” Snyder said Tuesday, Sept 3, in a conference call with reporters. “This is about building longer term relationships that can add great value. We’re on that path and it’s working.”
The governor said the trip could result in trade agreements between Michigan companies, whose representatives are accompanying him, and the East Asian countries.
“I have good expectations that we’ll see positive progress,” he said.
China has exported $3.3 billion in Michigan-made products last year, while Chinese foreign investment in Michigan reached $1 billion in 2012.
This is Snyder’s sixth foreign trade mission and his third to Asia, since taking office in 2011. He has previously led State delegations to Canada, Germany, Israel, China, Korea and Japan.
