SANFORD, Fla. — Mark O’Mara, the attorney who successfully defended George Zimmerman in his second-degree murder trial, will no longer be representing him.
“I am not representing George Zimmerman in his recent domestic altercation case, or his impending divorce case,” O’Mara told CNN, on Tuesday Sept. 10.
O’Mara’s announcement comes a day after Zimmerman was detained over an altercation, involving a gun, with his wife Shellie and her father, David Bryant Dean.
After the two declined to press charges, Zimmerman was not charged or arrested.
In the months following his acquittal, the Virginia native has had several encounters with the law. In addition to the recent almost-arrest, Zimmerman has been pulled over for speeding twice in the past two months. His wife recently announced the two might be getting a divorce.
According to CNN, O’Mara continues to be the attorney of record in Zimmerman’s impending lawsuit against NBC, though Pennsylvania attorney Jim Beasley will be the lead attorney on that case. He will also continue to be involved with outstanding sanction motions and recovery of costs from the State of Florida for expenses related to Zimmerman’s murder trial.
O’Mara recently landed a position as a legal analyst for CNN.
