State Representative Phil Cavanagh (D-Redford Twp.) is considering a run for Wayne County Executive in 2014. Cavanagh served for eight years as a Wayne County commissioner.
State Rep. Phil Cavanagh had his annual fundraising picnic at his Redford home. About 120 supporters and politicians, including local Democratic Congressmen John Conyers and John Dingell, along with State Rep. Harvey Santana, among other politicians, attended. |
Cavanagh would run to replace Wayne County Executive Robert Ficano, whose administration has been plagued by scandals since 2011. As a County commissioner, Cavanagh served as the treasurer for the more than $500 million annual budget for the Detroit County Community Mental Health Agency.
Detroit Mayor Dave Bing, who announced he would not run for another term, also said that he would look into running for Wayne County Executive. In May, Bing said that he planned on forming an exploratory committee to run against Ficano.
