A comedy-documentary, titled “The Muslims are Coming!” will get a limited release in select cities on September 12.
The film follows a band of Muslim American comedians, as they visit big cities, small towns and rural areas, in an attempt to dispel Islamophobia with humor.
Dean Obeidallah, Negin Farsad, Maysoon Zayid, Aron Kader, Omar Elba, Preacher Moss and Kareem Omary are the Muslim comedians who will be featured in the movie, which captures them interacting with everyday American citizens, as they try to break stereotypes and misconceptions that have increased against Muslims since 9/11.
Throughout the film, comedic icons, like The Daily Show’s Jon Stewart, David Cross, Janeane Garofalo, Colin Quinn, Lewis Black, Aasif Mandvi and media heavy weights, like Rachel Maddow, Russell Simmons, Soledad O’Brien, Ali Velshi and Congressman Keith Ellison comment on the power of comedy and the political scope of bigotry.
The film originally premiered at the Austin Film Festival, where it received the “Comedy Vanguard Audience Award” for best comedy.
Co-directed by Farsad and Obeidallah, the 81-minute film will follow its limited theater run by being available on ITunes, Amazon downloads and cable video on demand, beginning September 24.
