DETROIT — The federal government announced that it would provide $300 million in aid to assist Detroit, which this year became the largest city in United States history to file for municipal bankruptcy. The money will be used to demolish blighted buildings and homes, advance public safety and improve public transportation.
White House officials met with regional leaders in Detroit and noted that they’re aware that the aid will not solve all of Detroit’s issues, but have said it is the first step towards getting Detroit back on the right track.
The aid is also expected to bring more jobs to the city and provide economic relief to businesses and organizations operating in it.
