LANSING — Gov. Rick Snyder, on Tuesday, announced the appointment of Kevin Clinton, currently the director of the State Department of Insurance and Financial Services (DIFS), as the new State treasurer. Clinton replaces Andy Dillon, who submitted his resignation last week.
Dillon cited his recent divorce as the reason for his resignation. In a statement, he said, “It has become clear to me — as it likely is to most — that it is unfair to my family and the residents of Michigan to allow issues related to my recent divorce and the unfortunate acrimony associated with it to be a continued source of media attention and scrutiny.”
Snyder also appointed Ann Flood as the new director of DIFS. Flood has been serving as the department’s chief deputy director.
Clinton, who has 35 years of financial and insurance industry experience, has served as DIFS director since it was created last year, shepherding the new department responsible for regulating Michigan’s financial industries, including banks, credit unions, insurance and mortgage companies. The department employs more than 350 professionals, dedicated to protecting Michigan consumers.
The governor noted that Flood has more than 25 years of experience in the legal, insurance and health care fields.
Both appointments are effective Nov. 1. Clinton’s appointment is subject to the advice and consent of the state senate.
