DEARBORN HEIGHTS — The shopping plaza at the corner of Ford Rd. and Beech Daly has welcomed a new, spooky addition to its line-up this month.  Planet Halloween is a party store that aims to provide local residents with the ultimate Halloween experience, through the availability of supplies, such as costumes, cosmetics, decorations and treats. 

Dearborn resident Ali Jaasari, owner of Planet Halloween, has pursued numerous alternative business ventures in this area. He currently owns the Toy Box shop at Fairlane Town Center and has also sold toys and glow items at the Arab International Festival. During the Fourth of July season, he also sets up tents in Dearborn, with a City permit, to sell fireworks. 

As for his Halloween shop, Jaasari says his store provides the same options that major U.S. chains, such as Party City and Halloween USA, do, but for cheaper prices.

“Our prices are very competitive. All of our items are just under what they have been selling them for at any of the major retail places,” Jaasari says.

Of the hundreds of costumes available at the store, Superman, Batman and the Joker have been the most sought after by children, according to Jaasari. Zombies, vampire, police officer and witch costumes have also tempted adults to join in on the festivities as well. 

But what sets Planet Hollywood apart from any of its competitors is the make-up artists that are available, on-the-spot, to help paint and polish a customer’s look, using a variety of colorful make-up kits. Starting at just $5, customers can create their own look with assistance from the artists, or request a specific look, such as a vampire soaked in blood, or the creation of fictitious wounds around the neck or wrists. 

Residents who like to decorate their homes for Halloween will have no problem finding some appealing options at Planet Halloween. Supplies, such as tombstones, spider webs, skeletons, ghosts and pumpkins are available for purchase. Those who plan on handing out candy for Halloween can also purchase a variety of ‘trick-or-treat’ supplies there.

Planet Halloween coupons, which include 20% off of any item, have already been mailed out to residents in Dearborn Heights’ 48127 area code. Mailers of the same coupon are being sent to west Dearborn residents as well. Jaasari says his store will remain open until October 31, but he may consider extending his stay and possibly turning the Halloween shop into a Christmas shop next month.

“We saw an opening at this location and decided to take advantage of it. It’s a great location, and seasonal items have become a growing market in recent years. It’s a lot of fun, and I really enjoy working with kids and families,” Jaasari adds.  

Planet Halloween is open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., Monday through Sunday, with extended hours during the last week of October and is located at 25865 Ford Rd, Dearborn Heights, 48127; 313.826.4914.
