SOUTHFIELD — Osama Siblani, publisher of The Arab American News (TAAN), will appear on WXYZ Channel 7’s program, Spotlight Sunday, Nov. 10. Siblani will join Detroit City Council President Saunteel Jenkins, WXYZ Editorial/Public Affairs Director Chuck Stokes, Michigan Chronicle Editor Bankole Thompson and Tim Kiska, a professor at the University of Michigan Dearborn.
The show will discuss the election outcome in different cities, including Detroit and Dearborn. Detroit elected its first Latina city councilwoman and a Jewish city councilman. Siblani is also expected to speak about the importance of more Arab Americans getting active in Detroit politics and Dearborn City Council President-Elect Susan Dabaja’s victory in Tuesday’s election.
Dabaja is the first Arab and Muslim American to be elected Dearborn City Council president. The show will also highlight the New Michigan Media (NMM) banquet that was held at the Detroit Symphony Orchestra on Wednesday in celebration of the success of minority businesses in Southeast Michigan. Gov. Rick Snyder spoke at the NMM banquet that hosted TAAN, the Detroit Jewish News, Michigan Chronicle, Latino Press, the Michigan Korean Weekly and NEI.
