DEARBORN – In collaboration with The Arab American Foundation for Multicultural Education and Students’ Understanding (ARAMFO) in Denver, Colorado, Henry Ford Community College is launching a new “Study Abroad” course in Art History (ART-290) in Morocco.
ART-290 is a three-credit course taught by Dr. Hashim Al-Tawil, a specialist in the art and architecture of the Arab-Islamic world.
The course will focus on direct visits, study and analysis of major architectural monuments in different cities in Morocco originating from the 10th century to the 15th century CE in such cities as Rabat, Fez, Marrakish, Casablanca and Tangier. The trip starts June 17 and ends June 30 of next year. ARAMFO will subsidize 50 percent of the cost of the trip, requiring every student/participant to pay only $3200.
This amount covers roundtrip air travel, 14 nights in excellent hotels in five cities, three meals a day, and transportation inside Morocco.
This “Study Abroad in Art History” course will focus on architectural monuments from the Moravids and Mohads periods.
In Marrakish students will visit Ben Yousif Mosque and school, Al-Kutubiyyah Mosque, and Al-Mansour Mosque. In Fez the visit will include Al-Qarawiyyin mosque and school, Bu Ananiyah mosque and school, Bab Al-Futuh and Bab al-Qasabah in Tangier. Participants will also visit major popular markets, museums, and Al-Fana square in Marrakish.
ART-290 is open to undergraduate and graduate students in the humanities, general studies or those concentrating on Art History. The course is open to a limited number of non-students and community members.
Participants will have the opportunity to attend the annual international conference at Al-Hassan II University in Casablanca at no cost.
