DEARBORN – On Thursday, Jan. 16 between 8:45 a.m. and 10 a.m., four vehicles were broken into at the East Campus, specifically the parking lot between the Nursing and M-TEC buildings. Entry was gained into the vehicles by breaking the passenger side windows.
Purses were taken from two of the vehicles, the in-dash radio was taken from the third vehicle, and loose change was taken from the fourth vehicle.
There are no suspects at this time. The Dearborn Police Dept. responded to the scene for a follow-up investigation.
REMINDER:
If you must leave something of value in your car, put it in the trunk (or out of sight) before you get to your destination.
Preventing larcenies from autos, like all crime prevention, involves limiting the criminal’s ability and opportunity to commit the crime. With very little time and effort, you can make a huge difference in your vulnerability to a larceny from your vehicle.
Thieves walk or drive around parking lots looking for vehicles that have valuables in plain sight. It is fast and easy to smash open a window and take valuable items lying in plain sight within a vehicle. It is even easier if that vehicle is left unlocked.
SIMPLE TIP TO STOP VEHICLE BURGLARIES:
Don’t leave valuables in your car. That sounds like common sense, but drivers and passengers do leave items of value in plain sight every day. If you leave valuable items visible in your car, your car is automatically a target for thieves.
