DEARBORN — In the new action thriller “Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit,” starring Chris Pine, a plot follows him in a post 9/11 era through his tour of duty in Afghanistan and into a career as the Financial Intelligence Unit of the modern CIA, where he becomes an analyst.
The plot of the film features a story line in which terrorists are plotting to detonate a bomb in the U.S.
As the plot develops, Ryan discovers that the terrorists are planting the bomb in Dearborn, Michigan.
One would assume the film depicts the terrorists as Muslim or Arab Americans, but that is not the case. The terrorists in the film are of Russian descent and come from an Eastern Orthodox Church.
The key villain in the movie is a Russian Christian billionaire played by Kenneth Branagh, who wants the bomb to affect the U.S. stock market and dollar. Jack Ryan also stars Kevin Costner and Keira Knightley. After its nationwide release on January 14, the film has since grossed over $20 million at the box office.
