MICHIGAN — Both Republican and Democratic public officials are still issuing statements condemning Republican National Committee (RNC) member Dave Agema over the recent controversial remarks he made about the LBGT community and American Muslims.
Agema recently questioned whether Muslim Americans have made any positive contributions to the country. In a joint statement issued Friday, Jan. 24, RNC Chairman Reince Priebus and Michigan GOP Chairman Bobby Schostak issued the following joint statement: “For the good of the party, we believe Dave Agema should resign.”
Wayne County Executive Robert Ficano also responded to Agema’s comments saying, “I invite Mr. Agema to pay a visit to Wayne County and I’d be happy to give him a tour. A roundtable of Arab American Muslims can be convened to have dialogue with Mr. Agema as well. As home to the largest concentration of Arab American Muslims in the nation, we know firsthand that they contribute significantly to the community. They are businesspeople, merchants, public servants, doctors, lawyers, educators and a host of other honorable professions. And most importantly, they are Americans. It’s deplorable that anyone would spread this kind of hatefulness and even more so coming from a man who was elected to serve the nation’s best interests.”
