A friend of the family says Bazzi was playing with the gun before it discharged in front of his mother, who witnessed the incident.
According to sources, Bazzi was unemployed and on disability leave at the time of his death. His parents are divorced, and he was living with his mother.
On Monday, Dearborn Police told The Arab American News (TAAN) they were ruling out any foul play in connection with the case, and the Wayne County Medical Examiner’s office was still working on determining the official cause of death. As of now, police say an accidental shooting caused the death.
Bazzi’s death shocked the community and attracted a lot of attention on social media. One post on Facebook from a community member read, “Shady. Today, you brought us all together with memorable thoughts of weeping tears while being present at the scene, watching them take your body out of your house, with the voices of your mom crying out for your return, knowing that will not be..It made us all realize you were gone, but forever set free. You will never be forgotten Shady. Rest in Peace, Allah Yir7amak.” Bazzi’s family accepted condolences last week at the home of his oldest uncle Salah Mahmoud Bazzi, and funeral services were held at the Islamic Institute of Knowledge.
