DEARBORN — The 63rd annual Michigan District Key Club Convention took place in Grand Rapids, Michigan earlier this month.
The theme was “The evolution of service.” Key Club members, adult advisors and distinguished guests attended a weekend that included workshops, hours of community service and award presentations.
Key Club Advisor Zinab K. Zriek, who is also a teacher at Fordson High School, says students had the opportunity to connect with Kiwanis, who are part of a global organization of volunteers dedicated to changing the world.
Zriek says students also teamed up with members of the army, focused on the issue of childhood hunger and attended lectures on youth empowerment and stress relief. One of the convention speakers was Judson Laipply, who has been seen on the Today Show, Ellen, Inside Edition and Oprah.
“Our students once again have shined. Please congratulate our KC members when you see them for their unselfish service, and their time and effort,” Zriek said.
During the award ceremony, Fordson High School received the following awards: UNICEF Award, Early Bird Award, Monthly Report Award and Strive for 5 Award. The school came in second place with the Project Hope Award and first place with the Kiwanis Family Relations Award, Club Poster Award, Club Video Award and the Major Emphasis Project Eliminate Award.
