Nick Hawatmeh announced his candidacy for State Representative for Macomb County’s 25th House District currently held by Rep. Henry Yanez. The district includes parts of Sterling Heights and Warren.
“I am running for State Representative to provide Sterling Heights and Warren residents with effective leadership that will get things done for them in Lansing,” said Hawatmeh. “We deserve someone who will put politics aside and deliver meaningful results that help workers, families, and seniors on fixed-incomes.”
Sterling Heights Mayor Pro Tem Michael Taylor and Warren City Council President Cecil St. Pierre are early backers of Hawatmeh’s campaign. “Nick Hawatmeh is a proven leader who serves with compassion, dedication and integrity. He knows our community and he knows the issues. That is why Nick earned my endorsement,” Taylor said.
Nick Hawatmeh said his priorities are the following: job creation, fixing roads, strengthening public education, protecting senior citizens from fraud, and increasing training opportunities to equip workers for new high-tech careers. A local small business owner and lifelong resident of Warren, Hawatmeh attended Wilkerson Elementary, Carter Middle School, and graduated from Cousino High School.
He earned his Bachelor’s Degree from Wayne State University and his Juris Doctorate from the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law. Hawatmeh is a past volunteer with Macomb County Meals on Wheels, and he is an active member of Our Lady of Redemption Catholic Church where he is also a member of the Knights of Columbus. Hawatmeh’s leadership experience includes serving on the Warren Zoning Board of Appeals, the Michigan Board of Chiropractic, and he was appointed by Governor Rick Snyder to serve as a member of the Michigan Speech Language Pathology Board.
“For me, it is all about serving my community and putting people before politics. I pledge to be accessible, in-touch, and always accountable to the people I serve. Michigan is on the comeback, but we need leaders who will work together to finish the job,” Hawatmeh said.
