Pharrell’s “Happy” is currently the number one song in the country. Its video – featuring a bunch of happy people dancing and clapping in different locations around LA – is really easy to copy, so there are loads of tributes and parodies on YouTube.
This week, a Muslim version of the music video has become a big viral hit. produced by Muslim blog The Honesty Policy, it features all kinds of Muslims jumping, dancing, clapping and generally being (you guessed it) happy.
The video showcases a diverse group of Muslim men, women and children dancing enthusiastically in parks, at bus-stops, mosques, in Wembley stadium and supermarkets
It’s managed to garner more than a quarter of a million hits in less than two days, and does a great job of showing that Muslims – contrary to how they’re commonly portrayed in the media – are actually human, and quite enjoying themelsves.
Hours following the launch of the video, it appears some internet users weren’t too ‘Happy’ with it. Twitter users directed comments towards the video, some claiming it was too much, while others claiming it didn’t depict ‘proper’ Muslims.
